Etymology 03
SMYRSL

Old Norse for salve — the thing you apply. Still alive in the Swedish verb smörja, to grease or anoint. Read it once and you know both what it means and how to say it.

TOLG

Old Norse for tallow, and the material this is made of. Icelandic tólg, Faroese tálg, from Proto-Germanic *talgō. The modern Swedish ”talg” is the branch that drifted — not the other way around.
