TOLG

Old Norse for tallow. Icelandic tólg, Faroese tálg, from Proto-Germanic *talgō. The modern Swedish ”talg” is the branch that drifted — not the other way around.

Old Norse hlíf — shield, protection.

SMYRSL

Old Norse for ointment. The compound is ours; the parts are authentic.
